British felt defeated after they heard about Cornwallis' surrender. King George did not want to give up, but he was forced to accept their loss. The Revolutionary War finally ends when representatives of the United States and Britain sign a treaty in Paris. There were three major parts to the Treaty of Paris. First, Great Britain recognized that the United States were independent. Second, Britain had to give up all lands in between the Atlantic Coast and Mississippi. Lastly, the United States agreed to give back the Loyalists' rights and property. The Americans gained freedom to govern themselves, but this great prize came with the price of losing many people. George Washington wrote," With our fate will the destiny of unborn millions be involved."
